The Watang-Rizhao railway (also known as Wari railway), a major coal transportation route in northern China, saw its transport volume exceed 100 million tonnes for 2023, Xinhua News Agency reported.
The volume reached 100.81 million tonnes as of December 30 in 2023. Since its commissioning in December 2014, the heavy-haul railway has delivered over 505 million tonnes of shipments.
Stretching from Wutang town in Xinxian county, Luliang city, Shanxi province, to Rizhao port in Shandong, the railway connects three provinces while linking to seven major rail lines across China.
Significant investments have been made to develop transportation infrastructure along the route, and collaborations with local authorities have been initiated to establish new rail connections. Currently, 20 coal mine captive lines are operational and another seven under construction.
Looking to maximize the railway's strategic location and heavy haul capabilities, China Railway Taiyuan Group has strengthened cooperation with coal enterprises. This includes improving marketing and organizing more trains to efficiently transport coal.
