Suifenhe, China's major land port connecting with Russia, had imported a total 2.26 million tonnes of coal carried by over 34,770 wagons as of mid-December this year, a rise of 41% on the year, local media reported.
Recent cold wave led to significant drop of temperatures in northern China. The border port has intensified the organization of imported coal transportation to ensure smooth and robust supply of coal for heating and power enterprises in the northern areas.
By strengthening connections with Russian railway stations and fully utilizing transport capacity, it handles over 170 coal wagons in three batches each day.
An on-duty officer at the Suifenhe railway station interchange said that they have taken proactive measures in advance to address the shipping issue of freezing during winter, striving to improve the efficiency of transfer operations.
Suifenhe, a transit hub for imported coal, leverages its advantages as an international transportation corridor.
