Ukraine has turned to Australia for additional coal supplies to sustain its electricity infrastructure, amid intensifying wintry weather and escalating conflict with Russia.
As Ukraine's energy infrastructure was attacked, the country's demand for Australian coal has gained momentum.
The Australian government, led by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, is currently pondering the request. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has been in regular contact with the Ukrainian embassy since the initial request was made in December.
"We'll give consideration (to the coal request). I note the comments of the ambassador from Ukraine, who was talking about (shipments of coal) next October," Anthony said.
