China Railway (CR) Taiyuan Group, operator of 12 trunk rail lines including major coal-dedicated Daqin railway, expected to deliver a total 675 million tonnes of coal throughout the year, rising 27 million tonnes compared with the year-ago level, according to the group on December 28.
This contributed to an estimated total cargo shipment of 785 million tonnes in 2023, up 15.54 million tonnes from the year before, surpassing the target set by China State Railway Group (China Railway).
Coal shipment volume from Shanxi province is predicted to increase 21 million tonnes year on year to 650 million tonnes, the group said.
As of December 28, the group reported its daily coal loading of thermal coal at 21,146 wagons, 376 higher than the assigned target of 20,770 and up 750 on the year.
The cumulative fulfillment of medium- and long-term contracts for thermal coal amounted to 210 million tonnes this year, with a compliance rate of 91.3%. In particular, over 90% of the Shanxi's coal supply was fulfilled through term contracts, reaching over 135 million tonnes.
Nine out of 13 rail-linked power plants within the group's jurisdiction held coal stocks enough for 20 days of usage. Total inventory of 371 rail-supplied plants within China Railway amounted to 82.89 million tonnes, an increase of 12.18 million tonnes compared to the previous year, sufficient for 24.2 days of consumption.
Cargo transportation via Wari railway stabilized at over 2,400 wagons in the fourth quarter, with a daily shipping volume of 250,000 tonnes, a rise of 20,000 tonnes compared to the first nine months.
Throughout this year, CR Taiyuan Group has actively addressed the unstable coal market conditions through effectively utilizing acceptance bills to support customers with financial difficulties and reducing logistics costs for enterprises.
