Vietnam's coal output reversed to decline in November compared to last month and a year earlier, but still exceeded 4 million tonnes. Its production is expected to decline significantly in December, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Vietnam produced 4.11 million tonnes of coal in November, declining 3.17% from 4.25 million tonnes a year ago and 0.18% compared to 4.12 million tonnes in October, data showed.
From January to November this year, Vietnam's cumulative coal production amounted to 44.75 million tonnes, 2.56% lower than 45.93 million tonnes last year, with the decline expanding by 0.06 percentage point from the last ten months.
The country's coal production is expected at 3.50 million tonnes in December, dropping 10.48% year on year and 15.03% month on month. And the cumulative coal output over January-December is expected at 48.25 million tonnes, down 3.18% year on year.
The majority of domestically produced coal in Vietnam is used for local electricity generation, cement production, and other industrial purposes.
