India produced 664.37 million tonnes of coal as of December 25 in the fiscal year 2023-24, up 12.29% from 591.64 million tonnes in the same period a year ago, the coal ministry said.
Coal dispatches climbed 11.32% from 622.40 million tonnes a year ago to reach 692.84 million tonnes in the given period, thanks mainly to efforts made to meet robust energy demand in the power sector.
The volume delivered to power plants totaled 577.11 million tonnes, rising by 8.39% from 532.43 million tonnes in the year-ago period, data showed.
As of December 25, coal stocks including those at mines, power plants and in transit stood at 91.05 million tonnes, marking a 21.57% rise from 74.90 million tonnes in the same period a year ago.
Mine-mouth stocks held by the country's leading miner Coal India Limited were registered at 47.29 million tonnes as of December 25, soaring 53.02% from 30.88 milllion tonnes a year ago.
