Japan produced 7.11 million tonnes of crude steel in November, falling 5.3% month on month (MoM) and 0.9% year on year (YoY), according to data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation.
The output of ordinary steel was 5.44 million tonnes, down 6.1% from the preceding month and 2.9% from a year ago; that of special steel was 1.67 million tonnes, down 2.6% month on month but up 6.2% year on year.
In November, Japan's blast furnace steel production reached 5.09 million tonnes, decreasing 7.0% MoM and 1.6% YoY; electric furnace steel output was 2.02 million tonnes, down 0.9% MoM but up 0.9% YoY.
The production of hot-rolled coils in Japan was 2.84 million tonnes over the same month, sinking 9.1% MoM and 3.2% YoY; H-beam steel production stood at 278,000 tonnes, rising 1.3% MoM yet falling 8.3% YoY, data showed.
The production of pig iron was registered at 5.03 million tonnes in November, decreasing 6.9% MoM and 1.4% YoY.
From January to November, Japan's cumulative crude steel production totaled 80.02 million tonnes, down 2.8% from the preceding year; the output of pig iron dropped 1.9% YoY to 57.97 million tonnes.
