Indonesia's coal exports continued to increase from the previous month in December, rising over 20% compared to the same period last year, showed cargo-tracking data from Kpler.
The country exported 48.35 million tonnes of coal in December, rising 20.52% from 40.12 million tonnes a year ago and 6.13% from 45.55 million tonnes in November, Kpler's data showed.
Indonesia exported 46.08 million tonnes of coal to Asian countries in December, up 16.62% from the previous year and 2.73% from a month ago, accounting for 95.3% of total exports.
China remained the top destination for Indonesian coal in the same month with the shipment at 21.19 million tonnes, increasing 5.1% from a year earlier and 11.64% from November, data showed.
The country's coal exports to India surged 61.96% year on year but decreased 10.44% month on month to 8.51 million tonnes in the given month. Exports to the Philippines increased 19.17% from a year ago yet fell 9.63% from the month prior to 3.02 million tonnes.
Exports to South Korea climbed up 19.11% from a year earlier and 29.35% from November to 2.76 million tonnes. Shipments to Japan decreased 1.16% on the year yet increased 29.42% on the month to 2.66 million tonnes.
Indonesia exported 512 million tonnes of coal in the whole year of 2023, up 11.73% on the year, data showed.
