Bens Creek Group PLC, West Virginia-based metallurgical coal mining company, produced 112,342 tonnes of clean coal in the quarter ending December 31, 2023, 52.5% higher than 73,655 tonnes in the same period last year, foreign media reported.
Higher production, coupled with a lack of rain capacity, led to stock pileups. Low availability of train capacity during the quarter, especially in December 2023, hindered outward coal shipments of the company, resulting in about 90,000 tonnes' stockpiles. The company managed to reduce the number to below 60,000 tonnes after some cargo deliveries.
Clean coal output in the given quarter was equivalent to 41% of the company's clean coal production for the full fiscal year to March 31, 2023, said Adam Wilson, the company's chief executive.
He added that the company's cost per tonne registered a downside trajectory since June 2023. But metallurgical coal price rebounded from $191/t in August 2023 to the current $250/t.
