Coal exports from Australia ticked up by 0.71% month on month to 28.59 million tonnes in September, which also were 5.4% higher compared with the year-ago level, according to cargo tracking data from Kpler.
Japan was still the top destination of Australia coal in September with the shipment at 6.94 million tonnes, representing a 19.71% decrease compared to August and also down 33.73% on the year.
Coal exports to the second-ranked China's mainland stood at 5.23 million tonnes, falling 6.98% from the preceding month yet well above 80,400 tonnes in the previous year, data showed.
South Korea-bound shipments were 3.66 million tonnes, up 46.71% month on month and 67.46% from a year ago.
In the first nine months of 2023, Australian coal exports totaled 263 million tonnes, up 2.03% on the year.
