Australia's coal exports were worth A$7.47 billion ($5.04 billion) in October, rising 5.95% on the month yet falling 38.61% from a year ago, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Coal exports to Japan were valued at A$2.62 billion in October, down 15.16% from the preceding month and 54.04% year on year, accounting for 35% of Australia's total coal export value; coal shipments to India amounted to A$1.25 billion, up 10.74% on the month but down 2.73% on the year; and coal deliveries to China's mainland were worth A$915 million, up 14.31% month on month and compared with zero in the same month last year.
Coal exports to South Korea were A$680 million, a sequential decrease of 24.33% and down 48.41% year on year. Exports to China's Taiwan were worth A$455 million in October, dropping 20.33% from the month-ago level and 62.95% from the same period last year.
From January to October in 2023, Australia's coal export value totaled A$85.31 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 28.00%. Among them, the export value of coal to Japan was A$30.18 billion, down 33.93% year on year.
