Coal India Ltd. (CIL), India's largest state-run coal miner, reported its coal production rose 11.05% year on year to 531.9 million tonnes during April-December 2023, accounting for 68.2% of the production target of 780 million tonnes for this fiscal year ending on March 2024, the company said in a statement.
CIL's coal production was generally slow in the first half of the fiscal year due to the rainy season in India. In the first half of FY2022-23, the company completed only 42% of its production target, while it achieved its full-year production target of 700 million tonnes at the end of the fiscal year.
CIL's coal sales were 552 million tonnes during April-December this year, up 8.69% from 508 million tonnes a year ago, data showed.
The company produced 71.90 million tonnes of coal in December 2023, increasing 8.28% year on year and 8.94% month on month, hitting the new high since April 2023.
Coal sales of the company totaled 66.60 million tonnes in the same month, 6.22% higher from 62.70 million tonnes a year ago and 5.55% higher from 63.10 million tonnes in November.
