The Russian Energy Ministry announced that the proposed volumes of coal exports from Russia to the east in 2024 are anticipated to equal or exceed the achievements of 2023, media reported.
The eastward coal exports in the current year were successfully executed in nearly all regions, meeting the volume targets, Deputy Energy Minister Sergei Mochalnikov said.
Mochalnikov expected coal transportation of 106 million tonnes in the eastern direction in 2023. However, this figure is yet to be achieved due to the active expansion of the Eastern polygon.
The deputy minister expressed expectations of reaching 180 million tonnes by the end of 2025 and 210 million tonnes by the end of 2031.
Mochalnikov previously emphasized the importance for the Russian coal industry to remain within the parameters of 2021-2022 as demand surpassed its export capacity.
The deputy minister projected coal production in the country to reach approximately 440 million tonnes for 2023, with exports slightly below the 2022 level.
