Eastern China's Shandong province pledged to add over 15 GW of renewable energy power generation capacity in 2024, according to a provincial energy meeting held on December 27.
The new increments are expected to bring the total green power capacity in Shandong to over 100 GW in 2024, according to the meeting. This required about investment of around 200 billion yuan ($26.67 billion).
In 2023, Shandong boasted 91 GW of renewables capacity, which generated over 150 TWh of electricity during the period, doubling the 2020 levels.
Shandong is determined to accelerate renewable energy development over the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), and add the solar capacity to 65 GW and wind capacity to 28 GW by 2025, according to a provincial government guideline issued on June 10 for the electricity industry.
