Three workers were confirmed dead in a coal mine accident happened in Luliang, a main coal-producing hub of China's top 1 coal province Shanxi, on December 13, state broadcaster CCTV reported on December 14.
Four people were cleaning a bunker used to store coal when the accident occurred at No.1 Shaqu Coal Mine, which belongs to Huajin Coking Coal Company under the control of Shanxi Coking Coal Group.
Rescue workers were able to save one person, but the three others died after resuscitation efforts failed, the report said. It was unclear what caused the accident.
The mine, located in Liulin county, is allowed to produce 4.5 million tonnes of coal per year, mainly coking coal, lean coal and fat coal.
Market sources said after the accident, Huajin has suspended operations of its ten mines in Luliang, with combined production capacity at 18 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa).
Coal production in Luliang has just got its breath back from widespread mine suspensions following a major mine accident that claimed 26 lives on November 16.
It's worthy to mention that the company's chairman has just conducted a surprise safety inspection at the accident-related mine, and put a high-level stress over safe production around the end of the year.
On November 11, 2022, one miner dead in an incident in the mine and the province's safety watchdog canceled its Level-I Safe Production Standard.
