China's State Council Work Safety Commission summoned the Heilongjiang provincial government officials after recent fatal accidents happened in the province, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management on December 25.
Following the gas explosion that killed 11 at a coal mine in Shuangyashan city on November 28, a transportation accident killed 12 at another coal mine in Jixi city on December 20. The commission has decided to supervise the investigation of the transportation accident.
During the meeting, the commission said that this year, 20 accidents were reported in the province, with concerns raised about misinformation and concealment.
The commission urged the provincial government to intensify inspections of transportation and regulate the number of personnel entering mines according to stipulations.
It also urged to increase supervision in hazardous chemical areas and enhance safety management in the production, transportation, storage and use of fireworks.
In the transportation sector, preventive measures against adverse weather conditions are needed to prevent accidents, it pointed out.
