Crude steel production at key member firms of China Iron and Steel Association (CISA) reached 58.07 million tonnes in December, decreasing 7.95% from a year ago, the CISA data showed.
Daily output of crude steel at these companies averaged 1.87 million tonnes, dipping 11.73% from November.
Their output of pig iron was 56.23 million tonnes during the month, a 2.55% fall year on year, with the daily production down 7.04% on the month to 1.81 million tonnes.
Finished steel production came in at 62.74 million tonnes, down 2.54% year on year; daily output of finished steel fell 7.10% from the previous month to 2.02 million tonnes, data showed.
From January-December 2023, the CISA's key member steel mills produced 825 million tonnes of crude steel, 2.79% higher than the year-ago level. Daily output of crude steel in the same period averaged at 2.26 million tonnes.
Pig iron output totaled 747 million tonnes in 2023, up 4.16% from the previous year, while finished steel production increased 4.56% on the year to 826 million tonnes, data showed.
