China consumed 9224.1 TWh of electricity throughout 2023, rising 6.7% on the year, according to data released by the National Energy Administration on January 18.
The primary industries, primarily the agricultural sector, recorded an 11.5% year-on-year increase to consume 127.8 TWh of electricity. The secondary industries, mainly the industrial sector, utilized 6074.5 TWh of electricity, marking a 6.5% rise over the year. The tertiary industries, largely the service sector, used 1669.4 TWh of electricity, up 12.2% from the year prior.
For the residential segment, power consumption in 2023 also saw a 0.9% increase year on year to 1352.4 TWh.
In 2023, power companies above designated size generated 8909.1 TWh of electricity, data showed.
