U.S. coal output over the week ending January 13 was estimated at 9.97 million short tons (9.04 million tonnes), down 2.9% week on week and 18.33% year on year, showed data from the Energy Information Administration on January 18.
Coal production in Wyoming and Montana combined was estimated at 4.44 million short tons, down 3.77% from a week ago and 20.02% from the previous year.
Illinois's coal output was estimated at 670,600 short tons, down 0.49% from the week-ago level and 16.96% on the year, while Appalachian coal production was estimated at 3.01 million short tons, decreasing 2.45% from the week prior and 8.93% from a year ago.
U.S. coal output totaled 18.98 million short tons in the year to date, an 11.8% fall from 21.51 million short tons in the same period last year, data showed.
U.S. rail coal shipments were 58,478 rail wagons over the week, reducing 3,269 from a week earlier and 10,928 from the preceding year. The year-to-date rail coal shipments totaled 112,600 wagons, down 9.4% year on year.
