Canada exported 3.09 million tonnes of coal in November 2023, rising 30.01% on the year and 13.56% on the month, according to the latest data from Statistics Canada.
Value of the coal exports amounted to $957 million in the month, up 16.65% year on year and 12.21% month on month, data showed.
The top three destinations for Canadian coal exports were China's mainland, Japan and South Korea in November. China's mainland received 953,700 tonnes of coal, surging 45.03% on the year and 74.80% on the month. Shipments to Japan were 814,800 tonnes, down 8.98% year on year yet up 2.35% month on month.
Coal exports to South Korea stood at 588,000 tonnes in the same month, rising 64.71% on the year but falling 25.84% on the month, data showed.
Canada's coal exports totaled 34.91 million tonnes in the first eleven months last year, increasing 1.81% compared to the previous year. The value amounted to $10.93 billion, down 19.36% from a year ago.
