India's power generation capacity is anticipated to reach 758 GW by FY2030, of which non-fossil fuels including solar, wind and hydro power will amount to 412 GW, according to the National Electricity Plan by India's Central Electricity Authority.
This prediction marks a considerable increase from 125 GW in FY2023, which indicated that India was accelerating its transition away from fossil fuels. The share of fossil fuels in India's energy mix is forecast to drop from 57% to 36% by the end of the decade.
Besides, ICRA Limited, an independent and professional investment information and credit rating agency, estimated that non-fossil fuel capacity in India would climb up to 330 GW, thereby reducing the share of fossil fuels to 41% by FY2030.
It is projected that India's newly-added installed capacity will reach 29-30 GW per annum during FY2024-30, which requires the country to clear obstacles and secure financing.
India was also on track to achieve 50% non-fossil fuel energy in its total installed power capacity by 2030 towards a sustainable future.
