China imported 42.14 million tonnes of coal in September, climbing 27.51% or 9.09 million tonnes from 33.05 million tonnes a year ago, showed data from the General Administration of Customs (GAC) on October 13.
The September figure was 4.95% or 2.19 million tonnes lower than 44.33 million tonnes in August, data showed.
Value of the imports totaled $3.99 billion in September, a 0.57% uptick year on year but falling 2.13% month on month. Sxcoal calculated the average import price at $94.76/t, down $25.39/t year on year but up $2.72/t month on month.
China imported a total of 347.65 million tonnes of coal in January-September, surging 73.1% on the year. The imports value amounted to $39.67 billion, up 30.5% on the year, the GAC data showed.
