China imported 47.29 million tonnes of coal in December, climbing 53.03% or 16.39 million tonnes from 30.91 million tonnes a year ago, showed data from the General Administration of Customs (GAC) on January 12.
The imports volume in December was 8.71% or 3.79 million tonnes higher than 43.51 million tonnes in November, data showed.
Value of the imports totaled $5.16 billion in December, rising 23.37% year on year and 13.46% month on month. The average import price was calculated at $109.03/t, down $26.21/t year on year yet up $4.56/t month on month.
China imported a total of 474.42 million tonnes of coal throughout 2023, surging 61.8% on the year. The imports value amounted to $52.97 billion, up 24.1% on the year, the GAC data showed.
