China's Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. delivered 19.94 million tonnes of coal to Chongqing in southwestern China in 2023, hitting a historic high, according to Chongqing Economic and Information Commission.
Shaanxi Coal's thermal coal shipments to Chongqing reached 14.74 million tonnes, increasing 21.1% on the year, accounting for 49.7% of Chongqing's total power coal supply, the commission said.
The group's projects in Chongqing registered a considerable growth. Shaanxi-Chongqing Lingang Thermal Power Company generated 1.28 TWh of electricity with a profit of 80 million yuan ($11.25 million). The preliminary work of Shaanxi Coal's coal storage project in Fuling region in central Chongqing was also progressing steadily.
Shaanxi Coal has played a prominent role in guaranteeing coal supplies for key industries and enterprises in Chongqing through various transportation modes such as railway, container, and road-to-rail transport.
Additionally, Shaanxi delivered 1.5 TWh of electricity to Chongqing, surging 197% on the year, making it the fastest-growing region for Chongqing to purchase electricity.
The commission noted that with both governments' support, energy strategic cooperation between Shaanxi and Chongqing will make greater contributions to the high-quality development of the two regions.
