A severe winter storm swept through eastern half of the United States on January 9, leaving nearly 900,000 utilities without power as of 11 p.m. ET, according to PowerOutage.us.
New York and Pennsylvania faced hardest hit of the storm so far, each with 182,000 power outages and New Jersey with over 127,000 outages, data showed.
The current storm covers most of the area east of the Mississippi River and is moving toward the northeastern region of the country, which could lead to the coldest weather in the United States since December 2022, according to AccuWeather.com.
Power outages remained highest in the Mid-Atlantic region, while it is forecast to increase across the northeastern U.S. affected by strong winds and heavy rainfalls.
