India's coal production reached 92.92 million tonnes in December, increasing 10.74% from 83.91 million tonnes in the same period last year and 9.94% from 84.52 million tonnes in November, which marked a significant growth for the third consecutive month and hit a new high in fiscal year 2023-24, showed data from Ministry of Coal in India.
In December, Coal India Limited (CIL) produced 71.89 million tonnes of coal, up 8.24% year on year and 8.89% month on month. Coal production of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) reached 6.47 million tonnes, down 3.86% from a year earlier yet up 6.41% month on month.
The output of captive and commercial mines was 14.56 million tonnes, up 35.32% on the year and 17.23% on the month, data showed.
India's total coal production so far this fiscal year (April-December) was 684 million tonnes, 12.45% higher than 609 million tonnes in the same period last year.
From April-December, coal output of CIL was 532 million tonnes, rising 11.03% year on year. That of SCCL was 49.66 million tonnes, up 5.15% on the year level. Captive and commercial mines produced 103 million tonnes, up 24.91% from a year ago, data showed.
In December, total coal sales in India stood at 86.64 million tonnes, up 8.8% from 79.63 million tonnes a year earlier. Total sales were 710 million tonnes from April-December, rising 11.38% year on year.
CIL's coal dispatches were 66.56 million tonnes. SCCL sold 6.31 million tonnes of coal. Captive and commercial mines sold 13.76 million tonnes.
India has supplied 71.13 million tonnes of coal to power sector in December, 8.27% higher than 65.71 million tonnes in the same period last year. Total coal supply to power sector from January-December was 583 million tonnes, rising 7.96% year on year, data showed.
