Thailand's thermal coal (including bituminous and sub-bituminous coal) imports in November stood at 1.0 million tonnes, falling 46.26% year on year and 28.12% month on month, marking the third-straight month of decline, customs data showed.
Bituminous coal imports reached 247,400 tonnes in November, slumping 62.12% on the year and 64.91% on the month. Imports from Indonesia were registered at 129,600 tonnes, down 56.36% compared with 297,000 tonnes from a year ago; shipments from Australia were 117,300 tonnes, sliding 66.97% from 355,100 tonnes of the preceding year.
Sub-bituminous coal imports totaled 755,400 tonnes, down 37.73% year on year but up 9.45% month on month. Indonesia remained the largest supplier at 755,000 tonnes, decreasing 33.98% from 1.14 million tonnes a year earlier, while shipments from China were 306 tonnes compared with nearly zero in the corresponding month last year.
Anthracite imports were 12,300 tonnes, 41.81% higher than a year ago yet falling 35.31% on the month. In November, the country did not import coking coal.
Over January-November, Thailand's thermal coal imports accumulated 16.16 million tonnes, down 16.93% year on year. Bituminous coal imports reached 5.46 million tonnes, down 2.16% year on year; sub-bituminous coal imports declined 22.86% to 10.70 million tonnes.
The country's coal consumption amounted to 26.69 million tonnes during the first ten months this year, down 10.32% on the year, official data showed. This included 16.55 million tonnes burned by power plants, down 9.25% year on year, accounting for 62% of the country's total coal consumption over the period.
