The Xinghe railway running from Shanxi's Heshun to Hebei's Xingtai in northern China was officially put into operation on December 12, Beijing Daily reported.
As the third major energy transport channel after the Daqin railway and Wari railway, Xinghe railway will open a new seaway route for shipping Shanxi coal to the eastbound regions.
This Class I railway in China's national railway family is designed with annual transport capacity of more than 40 million tonnes.
In a total length of 142.6 km and with 10 new stations, the rail line can reach Huanghua port in Hebei province through connection with Hanhuang railway.
Xinghe railway can relieve pressures on surrounding roadway network, greatly enhance the energy delivery capacity, lower transport cost and effectively reduce environmental pollution, according to the report.
