Vietnam's coal imports (including those from foreign-invested enterprises) in September extended the decline for the third straight month, hitting the lowest since February, preliminary customs data showed.
The country imported 3.26 million tonnes of coal during the month, up 60.29% from 2.03 million tonnes last year but down 34.76% from August's 4.99 million tonnes, data showed.
The data revealed that Vietnam's coal import value in September amounted to $424 million, increasing 38.72% year on year yet dropping 28.24% month on month.
Indonesia was the top supplier in the month, delivering 1.23 million tonnes, up 38.2% from a year earlier but down 8.23% on the month. Vietnam imported 1.10 million tonnes of coal from Australia, up 31.41% on the year yet down 30.6% month on month.
Russia delivered 476,300 tonnes of coal to Vietnam, surging 2.3 folds year on year but down 12.5% month on month.
In the first nine months of 2023, Vietnam's accumulated coal imports were 37.77 million tonnes, showing a notable 54.8% increase from the preceding year.
Total value came in at $5.36 billion during the given period, down 7.61% on the year.
