China will reinstate tariffs on coal imports from Jan 1, 2024, according to an announcement issued on Dec 28. Coal imports from Australia and ASEAN countries will continue to enjoy a zero tariff, while imports from other countries like Mongolia, Russia, U.S., Canada and S Africa will be levied by 6% for thermal coal and 3% for anthracite, coking coal and lignite.
