Mongolia's coal exports totaled 6.59 million tonnes in January 2024, surging 3.06 million tonnes or 86.66% year on year, according to the latest data from the Mongolian Customs General Administration (MCGA).
However, the volume dropped 5.92% or 415,400 tonnes from the previous month, marking the second consecutive month of decline, data showed.
The value of coal exports amounted to $803 million in the same month, jumping 42.06% on the year yet falling 3.53% on the month, with the average price calculated at $121.76/t, down $38.23/t year on year but up $3.02/t month on month.
In January, all Mongolia coal was exported to China, soaring 90.34% on the year yet down 5.86% from the month prior. The export earnings were valued at $803 million during the month, with the average export price at $121.76/t, down $37.87/t from a year ago and edging up $3.07/t from the preceding month.
In January, Mongolia's bituminous coal exports were registered at 6.37 million tonnes, jumping 82.76% from the previous year yet down 7.63% from a month earlier; exports of anthracite were 4,800 tonnes, surging 182.43% on the year and rising 31.43% from December; and other coal exports were 225,000 tonnes, a substantial 362.42% spike compared to the year-ago level and soaring 94.85% from the month before.
