Flood at Zapolyarnaya coal mine located in northwestern Russia's Komi killed 1 miner and injured another, according to Russia's emergencies ministry on January 15.
Groundwater seeped into the mine and then flooded parts of the mine at a depth of 600 meters. About 60 people were working in the mine at that time, while 3 of them were at the water seeping spot, the ministry said.
The mine's operator VorkutaUgol noted that work in the mine had been suspended after all miners were evacuated to the surface. The company also said that a special committee was making efforts to investigate the accident's causes.
