Coal India Ltd., the country's largest miner, supplied 98 million tonnes of coal to the non-regulated sector during the first three quarters of the fiscal year 2023-24, rising by 31% from 75 million tonnes in the year-ago period and hitting a new high, it said on January 2.
The supply was reached even as CIL's supply to the country's power sector exceeded the commitment. This was mainly ascribed to higher production and enhanced dispatch efficiency.
Coal sales to power plants of the country were registered at 454 million tonnes during the period, beating its target by 8 million tonnes and representing a 5% increase compared with the year-ago level.
CIL churned out 532 million tonnes of coal during April-December, marking a year-on-year increase of 11%.
Metals, cement and other sectors that use coal for captive purposes are typically considered to be the non-regulated sector.
