Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa SA (JSW), Poland's largest coking coal producer, produced 3.39 million tonnes of coal in the fourth quarter of 2023, falling 0.8% from the previous quarter and 2.3% on the year, as announced in its quarterly operational results.
Coking coal output amounted to 2.69 million tonnes in the same quarter, down 4.9% compared to the third quarter and 2.5% year on year, data showed.
During the October to December period last year, the company's coke production rose 2.3% quarter on quarter to 870,000 tonnes, which was also 27.9% higher than a year earlier.
As for sales, JSW sold 3.36 million tonnes of coal over the given period, up 3% from a quarter ago and 2.1% from the preceding year, while coke sales were 790,000 tonnes, down 2.4% on the quarter but up 5.3% year on year.
Coking coal sales declined 1.5% from the quarter before yet rose 5.1% on the year to 2.64 million tonnes.
Meanwhile, JSW's internal sales grew 2.6% from the previous quarter and 29.6% on the year to 1.18 million tonnes in the same period.
The fourth-quarter average contract price for coke sales by JSW dropped around 2% compared to the third quarter last year, the company said.
