NTPC Mining Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Indian power producer NTPC Ltd, set a new record for annual coal production in the fiscal year ending March 2024, the company said on December 15.
Coal production surpassed 23.22 million tonnes by December 13, 2023 - within the first 257 days of the fiscal year, the company said in a statement.
This marked a year-on-year increase of 77% from coal output in fiscal 2022-23, which stood at 23.20 million tonnes, and an 88% rise in coal dispatch over the same period, NTPC Mining said.
The company operates four coal mines - Pakri Barwadih and Chatti-Bariatu in Jharkhand state, Dulanga in Odisha, and Talaipalli in Chhattisgarh.
NTPC has focused on improving safety, mine planning, equipment automation and workforce training to boost coal output growth.
The efforts were recognized by India's Ministry of Coal, which signed a deed of adherence with NTPC Mining on September 27 to acknowledge its achievements.
