    Safety authority to oversee handling of C China coal mine accident

    The Work Safety Committee of China's State Council will oversee the handling of a coal mine accident that resulted in the tragic loss of 16 lives on January 12 in Pingdingshan of central China's Henan province, Xinhua News reported, citing an announcement released by the committee on January 22.

     

    A coal and gas outburst accident happened at a coal mine run by Pingdingshan Tianan Coal Mining Co., Ltd, the listed arm of China Pingmei Shenma Holding Group, the biggest metallurgical coal supplier in central China.

     

    The mine has an approved production capacity of 1.04 million tonnes per annum and mainly produces low-sulfur primary coking coal (S0.6, V25, G82), according to Sxcoal's earlier report.

     

    The committee urged the province to swiftly coordinate with relevant departments to collaborate with the National Mine Safety Administration's Henan bureau in conducting a thorough investigation. This includes identifying the cause of the accident and proposing effective measures to address the situation, according to Xinhua.

     

    The authority emphasized the necessity for the province to provide an investigation report, along with details of decisions and their implementation, to the Office of the Work Safety Committee promptly upon the closure of the case.
