Northwestern China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region had delivered over 130 million tonnes of coal via railway throughout the year of 2023, rising 5.4% from the year prior, Xinjiang Daily reported.
Of this, the region's outbound coal shipment increased 9.5% on the year to 60.23 million tonnes.
It is learned that the total cargo shipping volume through Xinjiang's railways reached 214 million tonnes, a 4% year-on-year rise.
The railway department in Xinjiang has committed to improving coal transport efficiency and availability, using and increasing open wagons for loading on coal-dedicated trains.
While ensuring the coal supply within the region, Xinjiang has also shipped coal from multiple railway stations, fully meeting the demands of 84 coal-consuming enterprises in Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, and southwestern regions.
On December 25, 2023, Xinjiang's railway department signed strategic cooperation agreements with 31 key enterprises, setting a target freight volume of 178 million tonnes for 2024, providing support for rail shipment growth this year.
