India's power generators' thermal coal imports retreated in November from the record-high a month ago, but still hit the second-highest level since August 2022, according to official data.
Power producers imported 5.88 million tonnes of thermal coal in November, soaring 85.07% from 3.18 million tonnes in the same month last year but falling 21.56% from 7.5 million tonnes in October, showed data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
Among all the coal imported by power companies last month, 4.29 million tonnes were directly burned, surging 214.84% year on year but falling 7.29% month on month, and 1.59 million tonnes were blended with domestic coal, dropping 12.47% on the year and 44.62% from a month ago.
Among power utilities blending imported coal with the domestic resources, 7 state-owned power enterprises imported 1.09 million tonnes and 10 private enterprises imported 1.59 million tonnes; among those directing burning imported coal for power generation, one state-run company purchased 40,200 tonnes and 13 private ones receipted 4.25 million tonnes.
