Canada exported 2.72 million tonnes of coal in October this year, down 13.8% on the year and 22.23% on the month, according to latest data from Statistics Canada.
Value of the coal exports amounted to $853 million in the month, down 24.12% year on year and 10.78% month on month, data showed.
The top three destinations for Canadian coal exports were Japan, South Korea and China in October. Japan received 796,100 tonnes of coal, down 17.26% on the year and 11.47% on the month. That of South Korea was 792,900 tonnes, increasing 57.17% year on year and 71.66% month on month.
Coal exports to China stood at 545,600 tonnes in the same month, falling 20.51% on the year and 52.17% on the month, data showed.
Canada's coal exports totaled 31.82 million tonnes in the first ten months this year, declining 0.29% compared to the previous year. The value amounted to $9.97 billion, down 21.68% compared with the same period in 2022.
