China's independent coke firms churned out 30.84 million tonnes of the steelmaking material in September, rising 3.6% on the year and accounting for 74.4% of the country's total coke output, according to data released by the China Coking Industry Association (CCIA).

Coke output from steel firms' captive coking plants was registered at 10.60 million tonnes in September, up 3.5% from the preceding year, the CCIA data showed.

The combined coke output reached 41.44 million tonnes, 3.6% higher than the year-ago level, data showed.

During the first nine months, coke output of the independent coking plants stood at 271.31 million tonnes, up 2.0% year on year, while that of the captive firms increased 4.4% to 97.01 million tonnes.

China's total coke output was 368.31 million tonnes in January-September, rising 2.6% from a year earlier.

Coke output of member firms of the CCIA totaled 20.03 million tonnes in September, climbing 5.55% from the year before.
