Coal exports from Australia decreased 13.58% month on month to 29.06 million tonnes in January, which was still 5.72% higher than the year-ago level, according to cargo tracking data from Kpler.
Japan was still the top destination of Australian coal in January with shipments at 9.64 million tonnes, edging up 1.00% from December yet down 3.95% on the year.
Coal exports to China's mainland stood at 5.51 million tonnes, decreasing 11.00% from the preceding month yet surging 110.14% from the same period last year, data showed.
South Korea-bound shipments were 2.81 million tonnes, down 34.72% month on month and 14.85% from a year ago.
