Trade unions of Coal India have decided to postpone their planned strike following a court order instructing the company to adhere to the latest wage agreement, said Amarjeet Kaur, General Secretary of the All India Trade Union Congress, conveyed this development to local media PTI.
The proposed strike was organized to demand the alignment of non-executive employees' salaries with the guidelines of the National Coal Wage Agreement (NCWA) XI.
"In supersession to our letter dated September 27, 2023, kindly note that the representatives of trade unions, while considering the appeal of management, conveyed that the strike in the establishments of CIL and its subsidiaries is deferred," Coal India, in a regulatory filing, said on October 11.
The wage revision agreement, approved in June by the coal ministry, includes a 19% increase in the minimum guaranteed benefit and a 25% increase in allowances for non-executive employees.
The court's decision mandating compliance with this wage agreement has averted the impending strike, offering a more stable outlook for labor relations within Coal India.
