Guizhou province in southwestern China had 312 legal coal mines in operation as of the end of December 2023, with production capacity combined at 184.82 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), showed data from the provincial energy administration.
Specifically, Liupanshui had 92 mines, with total capacity of 77.40 Mtpa; Bijie had 124 coal mines, with total capacity at 67.52 Mtpa; Qianxinan had 39 coal mines in operation, with capacity of 17.85 Mtpa; Zunyi had 34 mines with capacity of 13.05 Mtpa, data showed.
In terms of production capacity, the province had six coal mines with capacity at or above 3.00 Mtpa, totaling 24.00 Mtpa, 30 mines with capacity at or above 1.20 Mtpa, totaling 60.47 Mtpa, 282 mines at below 1.20 Mtpa, with capacity combined at 124.35 Mtpa.
Meanwhile, 111 coal mines or 36% of the total mines had production capacity less than 0.45 Mtpa, with total capacity of 33.40 Mtpa or 18% of the province's total production capacity.
