Turkey imported 3.64 million tonnes of coal in December 2023, falling 13.32% from the preceding year yet rising 6.24% from a month earlier, showed the country's trading statistics.
The value of coal imports declined 44.33% year on year to $447 million, dipping 5.14% from November. That put the average import price at $122.83/t in December, down 35.78% from a year ago and 10.71% month on month.
During January-December, Turkey's coal imports exceeded the 40-million-tonne mark to 40.19 million tonnes, up 6.85% from the year-ago level, refreshing the record. The accumulative import value amounted to $5.72 billion, down 31.23% on the year.
Turkey's imports of bituminous coal stood at 3.37 million tonnes in December, down 6.21% year on year yet up 16.84% month on month. The imports amounted to $384 million, falling 38.67% year on year but rising 14.2% from the preceding month.
Turkey's coking coal imports were 188,100 tonnes in December, slumping 65.23% on the year and 62.03% on the month. Anthracite coal imports in the same month increased 24.31% from the year-ago level and 73.6% on the month to 84,800 tonnes.
Turkey's imports of coke amounted to 57,800 tonnes in December, declining 25.57% year on year and 37.48% month on month. The value of coke imports fell 35.43% on the year and 32.22% on the month to $18.81 million.
