Profits of China's coal mining and washing industry totaled 762.9 billion yuan ($106.2 billion) in 2023, down 25.3% from a year earlier, according to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).
Revenue for the sector stood at 3.5 trillion yuan during the period, down 13.1% on the year, while costs were 2.2 trillion yuan, 7.2% lower than the year-ago level.
Profits across all mining industries declined 19.7% year on year to 1.2 trillion yuan in January-December 2023, while revenue reached 6.1 trillion yuan, down 8.6% from a year ago. Costs were 4.0 trillion yuan, a 3.9% fall.
Major industrial firms in China, those with annual revenue of over 20 million yuan from core business, reported profits of 7.7 trillion yuan in 2023, down 2.3% on the year. Their revenue came in at 133.4 trillion yuan, up 1.1% year on year, while total costs rose 1.2% to 113.1 trillion yuan, the NBS data showed.
