Ordos, in northern China's Inner Mongolia, targets to complete intelligent transformation for all operating coal mines by 2025, China News Service reported, citing an announcement from mayor Du Huiliang on January 20.
Ordos, a significant energy hub and a major coal-producing city in the country, boasted over 300 coal mines with annual coal supply reaching 850 million tonnes, accounting for around 20% of the country's total.
Ordos has built 123 intelligent coal mines and applied 126 unmanned vehicles in mining areas as of now, acquiring initial achievements of the construction of intelligent coal mines and the demonstration and application of driverless vehicles.
The city also had 40 industry- and enterprise-level industrial Internet platforms, including multiple Artificial Intelligence (AI) modules to provide development, operation, sales and consulting services to enterprises.
Du Huiliang noted that all coal mines that have been put into operation will be built into intelligent coal mines by 2025 and meet the modern coal mine standards of grade II or above.
China is stepping up the construction of intelligent coal mines, helping considerably reduce the working miners in underground coal mines through robot replacement of fixed and dangerous works, according to Chen Zancheng, deputy director of the Safety Basics Department of the National Mine Safety Administration of China.
Ren Lixin, deputy director of the Coal Department of China's National Energy Administration noted that Inner Mongolia made great contributions in the integration of 5G and AI technology with the coal sector. Eleven coal mines in Inner Mongolia have been selected as the first batch of intelligent demonstration projects in China, and 19 out of 455 completed intelligent working stations have been selected as national typical cases of intelligent coal mines.
