Southwestern China's Guizhou province has commenced construction on an opencast coking coal mine, local media reported.
Located in Hezhang county, Bijie city in Guizhou, the Huangjiashan coal mine has a designed annual production capacity of 1 million tonnes, with a total investment of approximately 590 million yuan ($82.14 million), according to Guizhou Daily.
The estimated coal reserves exceed 24 million tonnes, with available reserves at 21 million tonnes, mainly scarcely available primary coking coal. The resources suitable for opencast mining amounts to over 8 million tonnes.
The mine was included in the province's major projects for opencast mining in 2023. It covers a mining area of 1.87 sq. km, with opencast mining area of 1.03 sq. km.
The project is owned by Guizhou Hongneng Mining Co., Ltd. a joint venture between Hezhang County State-owned Assets Investment and Operation Co., Ltd. and a private enterprise.
