Eastern China's Zhejiang province consumed 55.17 TWh of electricity in January, climbing 61.7% from a year ago, according to the local branch of State Grid Corp of China.
Power use in the industrial sector amounted to 35.48 TWh, a notable year-on-year increase of 94.72%, while electricity consumption in construction and wholesale and retail sectors rose 87.35% and 60.62% on the year, respectively.
The significant growth was partly attributed to a lower base in the corresponding period last year and high residential demand amid weather impact.
Electricity consumption in residential and transportation sectors witnessed rapid growth. In January, Zhejiang recorded a total of 82.25 GWh of electric vehicle charging, marking a 35.03% year-on-year increase.
Meanwhile, Zhejiang embarked on a strong push for development from the start of the year, bolstering production enthusiasm of the entire society, particularly in the industrial and manufacturing sectors.
State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power said it will continue to strengthen power supply capacity and optimize services, in a bid to support the province's high-quality socio-economic development.
