Coal production and sales in Ordos, northern China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region, reached 700 million tonnes over January-October this year, increasing 8.21 million tonnes or 1.2% year on year, local media reported.
Coal miners in Ordos would supply 673 million tonnes of thermal coal to power plants this year, against 668 million tonnes of medium- and long-term contracts assigned by the regional government, representing a fulfillment rate of 100.8% this year, according to Ordos Daily.
The city, meanwhile, shoulders 11.2 million tonnes of coal supply tasks to seven prefectures in the region for winter heating purpose this year.
Ordos, the largest coal producing city in China, has been playing a significant role in ensuring stable coal supply in the country. It produced 778.71 million tonnes of coal last year, accounting for 17.32% of China's total production of 4,495.84 million tonnes.
Longwanggou coal mine of Guoyuan Mining Development Group Co., Ltd in Ordos, a subsidiary of China Datang Corporation Ltd., was expected to produce 15 million tonnes of coal this year. It produced 13.6 million tonnes of coal in the first ten months.
Buertai coal mine in Ordos of Shendong Coal of CHN Energy, with production capacity of 20 million tonnes per annum, produced 18.38 million tonnes of coal in January-October, accounting for 91.9% of its total supply task this year.
