The development and reform commission in northwestern China's Ningxia Hui autonomous region called on relevant authorities to be aware of potential power supply gap during night times of this winter and required continued efforts to ensure sufficient coal supply.
As the region heavily relies on outsourced coal to meet energy demand due to its scarcity of the resource, ensuring ample thermal coal supply and stocks to power plants become essential during the peak consumption period in winter.
At a winter power supply alert meeting on December 1, the local economic planner called on relevant departments to coordinate coal supply within and outside the region, while accelerating the release of advanced coal capacity in the premise of safety, ensuring daily regular coal supply at above 250,000 tonnes.
Power and heating plants are encouraged to intensify coal procurement efforts and maintain normal production and sales during holiday period. Power coal stocks should stabilize at over 15 days' worth of usage, while heating coal aims for over 30 days, it said.
Apart from fuel supply, thermal power companies were urged to enhance faults identification and high-level maintenance to ensure units fully operate on schedule and power generated to connect to the grid.
In order to improve capacity utilization, coal-fired power plants were encouraged to scientifically blend fuels and actively reduce output constraints caused by poor coal quality or unit defects.
